Urban development, landscape planning and mobility solutions are connected and affect the citizens’ life and movement in cities as well as in rural areas.

Therefore we always offer consultancy based on a holistically oriented approach to create the best collaboration between urban development, transportation, landscape planning, climate adaptation, and mobility.

The future urban development

We develop cities and landscapes in close dialogue with authorities, builders, citizens and a series of other stakeholders. Sustainability and digitalization form the fundament of our approach to planning on all levels and we can draw on an ample field of technical competences in-house to deliver comprehensive and complete solutions.

The urban development of the future will be more efficient and well thought-out due to the possibilities inherent in digitalization. As a consultancy company, we contribute to utilizing the technological progress within urban development through our involvement in projects with both public and private stakeholders.

We use digital platforms to collect data that give new insights as well as a broader dialogue with the citizens and enhanced inclusion of stakeholders. We analyse and visualise these data in order to use them in 3D city models and digital plans that will give a solid foundation for decision making as well as streamlining projects within all planning disciplines.

Landscape planning with increased value

In NIRAS we have a unit with 25 urban planners and landscape architects. We have several years of experience in integrating strategic urban visions into the concrete projects. We are passionate in our project approach that always has a focus on experiences and functionality – with a touch of poetry.

Our landscape architects deal with sketching, ideas and design, and project planning – including selection of materials, detailing, planting, coating, surfacing and inventory – in all types of projects. We are used to work in close cooperation with authorities, developers and other project partners. Through knowledge-based, creative and interdisciplinary processes we create value for our clients, for the users and for society at large. This results in unique and more sustainable landscape architecture projects.

As landscape architecture consultants, we also have the distinct advantage that we form part of a large innovative consultancy house. Therefore, we can easily draw on specialists within areas such as building, water, supplies, and traffic and roads.

Green mobility and mobility planning

NIRAS works strategically with mobility planning to secure that all citizens – regardless age, gender and physical or social challenges – can move freely in society. Good mobility planning takes all transportation needs into consideration, it creates safe waiting and transition conditions for passengers, and combine transportation with urban planning.

The users are our priority. Citizens must always feel safe, even if they have to commute at night to their work or have to walk long distances to get to school. Citizens with physical disabilities must have equal access to public transport and families must be able to hold their everyday life together even though they do not have a car, but still have to pick up their children, do the shopping, etc.

Our experts focus on enhancing sustainable mobility that supports a healthy everyday life and favours climate friendly solutions for transportation. We have many years of experience in creating green transportation, safe hubs and local solutions that are based on users’ needs. We do so by entering in dialogue with citizens and stakeholders to understand the local context and work holistically across disciplines and sectors.

Furthermore, we also help authorities and private companies to develop mobility plans and to secure the strategic and physical conditions for e-mobility and infrastructure for charging stands. We help during the whole process, right from shaping the visions until the citizens can plug in the cable to charger.

We also use traffic analyses and traffic simulations to analyse existing or new infrastructure so it will be planned to fit the needs of transportation and the traffic patterns of the future.
