Project
Collaboration is key and to achieve our goal of supporting the renewable energy transition in the offshore wind industry, NIRAS joined a partnership with the leading European energy company, Vattenfall in 2024.
- SECTORS: Offshore Wind
- CLIENT: Vattenfall
- COUNTRIES: Northern Europe
The partnership entails a four year framework on metocean assessment as part of the site conditions for offshore wind and enables Vattenfall to draw on NIRAS expertise within offshore wind engineering consultancy services. Through collective insights, innovation and collaboration we are able to tackle the challenges of metocean assessments of offshore wind projects.
“We are delighted to join partnership with Vattenfall on realising offshore wind farm projects internationally. Vattenfall has a strong focus in their project portfolio in Northern Europe which aligns very well NIRAS key markets, and as such we are ready to support them on their engineering challenges for their offshore wind projects," said Thor Ugelvig Petersen, Vice President for Offshore Wind.
Maziar Golestani, Head of Site & System Design Project Management with Vattenfall:
“Vattenfall is pleased to have NIRAS as part of our framework agreements for providing consultancy services in relation to metocean model and data for optimal design of our offshore wind projects.”
Wind power – a core ingredient to renewable energy transition
“Since 1991 where NIRAS worked on the world’s very first offshore wind farm, Vindeby in Denmark, we have continuously been involved in the development of the sector. Additionally, it is part of our Offshore Wind business to contribute to the green energy transition and to a large extent expand NIRAS’ renewable energy profile. The framework agreement with Vattenfall perfectly reflects our ambition to support the renewable energy transition – GREENsition – and both NIRAS and Vattenfall are two very purpose-led companies with ambitions to play a strong role in the European green energy transition,” said Thor Ugelvig Petersen.
In April 2022, NIRAS launched a new corporate energy strategy called GREENsition. This initiative aims to enhance our professional expertise and expand our service offerings to support the green energy transition globally. A key component of this vision is the significant investment in research and development within wind energy, along with bold partnerships with market-leading corporations like Vattenfall. We are excited to collaborate in this partnership, driving innovations for future offshore wind projects.
