Project

Enhancing water treatment reliability and performance

Water treatment plants

FDT, now part of NIRAS was engaged to address significant issues with an existing water treatment system, including ruptured distribution mains, pump failures, and organic build-up in the media filters. These challenges necessitated a comprehensive upgrade to maintain system output and improve water quality.

Tailored upgrades for improved efficiency

To mitigate these issues and secure a reliable water supply, NIRAS implemented several solutions:

  • Installed three new deep well pumps and a new water main.
  • Added chlorine dioxide dosing to minimise organic build-up.
  • Replaced media filters with AFM glass media.
  • Installed sodium bisulphite dosing to reduce residual chlorine.

Achieving long-term water sustainability

The successful upgrades not only resolved immediate problems but also enabled the use of treated well water from additional sources, significantly reducing overall site water usage and improving operational efficiency.
