Building A Sustainable Rum Distillery In The Caribbean

Following the success of a previous collaboration, FDT, now part of NIRAS was appointed to lead the process design and project management for a new rum distillery in the Caribbean. The distillery processes fresh sugar cane juice from an integrated milling facility on the island, producing rum that is matured on-site.

Comprehensive process design and project management

NIRAS supported the project with:

  • Initial site suitability assessment.
  • Process design, including cane handling, rum distillation, and vinasse management.
  • Full utility design, encompassing power generation.

Coordinated installation and commissioning

In the summer of 2019, NIRAS supervised and coordinated the installation and commissioning of the distillery, ensuring seamless integration between various process vendors. The result was a state-of-the-art facility that supports local agriculture and sustainable rum production.
