Duty of care

Duty Of Care

While you work for NIRAS, you will be under our Duty of Care, which means we will take steps to mitigate the risk you face when you travel on our behalf. It is a priority for us that you are properly covered by insurance while travelling, and that you can receive assistance if anything should happen to you.

Here are some of the measures, we have taken as part of our Duty of Care programme:

  • Safety and security risks are assessed prior to undertaking any project, and the risk assessment is continuously updated throughout the project lifetime.
  • All staff on international travels must be covered by appropriate travel/expatriation insurance.
  • We have a security membership with a third-party security risk management provider, incl. 24/7 security hotline, digital app-based travel risk management system and global crisis management support.
  • Our internal Safety & Security Adviser is a dedicated resource to support any project or incident occurring in the NIRAS group.

If you will be travelling internationally as part of your work for NIRAS, you will need to familiarize yourself with our travel security procedures, which obligates travellers to:

  • Assess the risk level at the target destination prior to departure and discuss with manager
  • Register in our travel risk management system, GAP Guardian, and record all travels there
  • Provide the names and contact details for at least two emergency contacts
  • Prepare and follow a contact plan with your manager
  • Inform about emergencies or other concerns at the earliest possible time

More advanced procedures apply to projects in high-risk locations. In case this is applicable, then please reach out to your manager that will contact our Safety & Security Adviser.

Domestic travels are generally not covered under our travel insurance, nor is it possible for NIRAS to provide this. It is your own responsibility to ensure you are properly covered by insurance while in your home country. Please refer to the details in your contract or ask your manager if you have questions in this regard.

If you have questions or concerns related to security, you can get in touch with our Safety & Security Adviser through your manager.
