The Danish Ministry of Defense Estate Agency recently entered into framework agreements for comprehensive consultancy in the construction and civil engineering sector in Denmark, the Faroe Islands, and Greenland. NIRAS won the framework agreement as one of the main consultants, with H+, C.F. Møller, SMJ, Inuplan, Kontrast, and TNT Nuuk as sub-consultants. Valid for four years, the framework agreement will be used for all of the Defense Estate Agency’s construction and civil engineering projects during this period.
“In these uncertain times, we are pleased to contribute to the expansion of the Danish defense facilities. We believe this is an important societal task and look forward to collaborating with the Ministry of Defense Estate Agency,” says NIRAS CEO Carsten Toft Boesen.
The Danish Defense Estate Agency expect to build more facilities in the coming years, following a broad agreement in the Danish Parliament in 2023 on a new defense settlement, where it was decided that no less than DKK 143 billion will be invested in Danish defense by 2033. With the newly signed framework agreement, words are now being turned into action. The total agreement has an estimated economic scope of DKK 700 million and a maximum scope of DKK 1.05 billion for the entire agreement period.
“Since we bid on this agreement, it has become even more relevant as noted in the Danish Prime Minister's New Year’s speech. Furthermore, the agreement is exciting for us because it draws on a wide range of our various competencies and spans across geographies,” says NIRAS Business Unit Director Kirsten Henriksen.
Kirsten’s colleague and fellow NIRAS Business Unit Director Flemming Mogensen concurs: “We will truly be able to contribute with a wealth of expertise and involve experts from all over Denmark, which is quite unique. I am also glad that we have included local partners from Greenland and the Faroe Islands as sub-consultants,” he adds.
Both Kirsten and Flemming point out that the new framework agreement is a continuation of an already good collaboration with the Danish Ministry of Defense Estate Agency.
According to the Danish Defense Estate Agency’s own press release, the framework agreement aims to facilitate swift and efficient execution of construction and civil engineering projects and to build shared knowledge and experience that can optimise processes in upcoming construction projects. In addition to NIRAS, three other consultancy firms in the industry have been chosen as advisors on the agreement.
