A word from the Board

Chairman at the NIRAS ALECTIA Foundation

The foundation’s most eminent task is to ensure that there is always a competent management in NIRAS and to participate in developing that management. In addition to this, there is a lot of competencies in the foundation, which can be used to spar with the business and improve one another – an important quality in the very competitive market which NIRAS is a part of.

It is highly motivating to take part in expanding the foundation for ideas and continue the development which NIRAS has been through since 1956. It is inspiring to see how we have managed to address the different problems that society, not just nationally but also internationally, has faced through time.

Additionally, the foundation ownership provides a peace through the organization, i.a because there is a convergence between the employees and the members of the foundation. I experience time after time that it is motivating for the employees that, they are not only informed about what happens in the board meetings but they also have the opportunity to involve themselves and provide influential proposals for the organization.

The NIRAS ALECTIA Foundation works partly to ensure the best possible conditions for development for NIRAS as a company, and partly to support and promote the technical disciplines and educations in the broad population.

The Foundation supports the exciting development projects, that supports NIRAS’ strategy and promotes the long term development of the engineering business as a whole.

The work with the foundation makes it possible to contribute to NIRAS being a good workplace and for the company to be able to develop in line with our key values.

Since the foundation’s work does not necessarily require that all initiatives are profitable, it provides the opportunity to support projects of a more analyzing character. Through collaboration with the universities and the individual ph.d projects, we have the opportunity to support the next generation of skillful employees and invest in the technical development of the industry.

I personally find it interesting to know more about our company and be able to affect which direction the company develops in.

Being owned by a foundation gives a freedom. Of course we need to have a nice profit every year, but in addition to that, it is even more important to have a good workplace where the employees are thriving and are able to maintain close relations to our clients.

Foundation ownership is a fantastic kind of ownership, which ensures a stability for the company and a robustness. This will ceteris paribus also ensure a certain drive and make NIRAS capable of acknowledging the more long term development – and not only on the bottom line.

The Foundation’s work provide some incredible opportunities for thinking in a more long term development of NIRAS, while it also provides some requirements for utilizing these opportunities. Requirements to have the Foundation’s purpose (and the founders idea foundation) as an overall setting.

The NIRAS ALECTIA  Foundation contributes to a positive development of NIRAS by supporting Ph.d programmes and other technical specialties. In addition to this, the NIRAS Group is supported when buying larger companies that supports the companies multi-disciplined profile.

The foundation ensures a long term and continuous ownership structure, that integrates both earnings, solidity, employee involvement and sustainability. Meanwhile the foundation also protects NIRAS from abrupt deflections in the economic cycle and other short term market forces.
